Disk Defragmentation

Disk Defragmentation

Disk Defragmentation: I have no special one line note for explaining what disk Defragmentation is so I am writing in my own way.

We can say when we save any data in computer hard disk it stores in a fragmented section. on bit of data here and other part at some other location in the hard disk. Disk defragmentation takes that data to one location so computer needs less time to read the same data from hard disk then a non defragmented hard disk."

So I recommend every one to do a disk defragmentation in a gap of few weeks.

There are three ways to do data defragmentation without any external tool.

Method 1: Use the Properties of Your Local Disk

1. Open My Computer.

2. Right-click the local disk volume that you want to defragment, and then click Properties.

3. On the Tools tab, click Defragment Now.

4. Click Defragment.

Method 2: Use Computer Management MMC

1. Start Computer Management MMC (Compmgmt.msc).

2. Click Disk Defragmenter.

3. Click the volume that you want to defragment, and then click Defragment.

Method 3: Use Disk Defragmenter MMC.

1. Start Disk Defragmenter MMC (Dfrg.msc).

2. Click the volume that you want to defragment, and then click Defragment.

The version of Disk Defragmenter MMC that is included with Windows XP has the following limitations:

It can defragment only local volumes.

It can defragment only one volume at a time.

It cannot defragment one volume while it is scanning another.

It cannot be scheduled.

This is only one way to improve system performance but I will come with few tips for improving system performance very soon.

Hi there,

If this 15% is 4 time of Ram than you should not have any problem but for best performance good idea is to keep c drive atleast 30% free for good performance as well as to avoid memory dump error.
